1)  US/China tariff impacts
Flavor and Fragrance Chemicals

As you may know, the market for essential oil products is currently being affected by ongoing tariff negotiations between the USA and China. In addition, potential tariffs on essential oils from the European Union may also be on the horizon.

The USA/China tariff dispute has resulted in tariff increases that range from 10% to 25% on all major flavor and fragrance chemicals manufactured in China. Citrus & Allied is working closely with our supply partners to try to mitigate the impact of these tariffs on our customers. Those customers who are affected by the tariffs should be aware that Citrus & Allied operates a large capacity aroma chemical plant in Belcamp, Maryland, where we produce a number of the tariff items. Because they are manufactured domestically, they are not subject to the current tariffs. We welcome your inquiries on those items. As a reminder, Citrus & Allied is the only USA manufacturer of Natural Citral 95% and 96%, as well as a number of the Gamma lactones. These products are manufactured every day in Belcamp and are readily available.

The EU tariff situation is an ongoing story. Recently, Citrus & Allied Vice President Al Bauer had the honor of representing Citrus & Allied and the fragrance industry before a panel of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to explain why additional tariffs on essential oils from the EU would hurt all the flavor and fragrance houses in the USA on both the cost and competitive fronts. While the USTR has not decided which items will be affected or the amount of the tariff, Citrus & Allied is available to guide you through these difficult times using our extensive production capacities and our long-term experience sourcing essential oils.

Please contact your local Citrus & Allied representative with any questions.
